Intraoral Camera

Various modern tools and technology have greatly enhanced and improved the care that dentists can provide patients today. At Glen Ellyn Dentistry, we strive to maximize the benefits of advancements in the dental industry by incorporating state-of-the-art dental equipment, such as intraoral cameras, in our practice and routine treatment protocols.

What Is an Intraoral Camera?

An intraoral camera is a type of digital camera that is designed especially for taking images of the anatomical structures inside a patient’s mouth. These small cameras can easily fit inside the patient’s mouth to capture photos of their teeth, gums, and other oral structures.

How Does the Dentist Use an Intraoral Camera?

The dental care team at Glen Ellyn Dentistry utilizes intraoral cameras in a variety of ways. Most often, we use them to take images of our patients’ mouths before, during, and after dental treatments to help keep track of patient progress in our patient files. This helps our dental care team keep track of our work while keeping an eye on your future oral health goals and treatment expectations.

We also use the images taken with intraoral cameras to help us with patient communication and education. We often show our patients images of their mouths to help us clearly explain diagnoses and treatment recommendations while easily being able to reference specific anatomy and areas of concern captured in these photos. Additionally, we can use these photos to show patients the results of their treatments with side-by-side comparisons of before and after pictures.

How Accurate Are Intraoral Cameras?

With proper lighting, intraoral cameras are just as accurate as any high-quality, modern digital camera. They produce clear digital pictures that can be easily enlarged or enhanced on a computer.
